Yet our City Council shrinks from a leadership role in implementing Amendment 64, which legalized marijuana for citizens 21 and over. (Thank you Lisa Morzel for pointing out the folly in this.) The 2:1 vote was more than decisive. Boulder's citizens have spoken. And given our experience in managing medical marijuana we're in the best position of any city in the state to implement this important new law. Prohibition creates crime; the war on drugs has created a prison industry and the highest incarceration rate of any nation in the world, to our shame. Criminalization of a drug that is far safer than alcohol is not just folly; it's immoral. Let's lead the way out; let's show the state and nation how it can be done.
