You must find your voice now. If Friday's party line vote is any indicator, we will lose medical marijuana by the end of this legislative session. Republicans voted unanimously on House Bill 161 Friday to repeal the medical marijuana act entirely and they control both Montana's House and Senate. Prior to 1938, marijuana was found in over a dozen over-the-counter and prescription medications, and its use dates back over 5,000 years. On record, there has never been a documented overdose from marijuana, but it is guesstimated it would take 36,000 marijuana cigarettes consumed in under an hour to overdose. Did you know that acetaminophen, or Tylenol, is the second most common cause of liver failure requiring transplantation in the United States? Why are doctors more willing to prescribe dangerous opiate-based narcotics, which have huge risk for abuse and dependency and potential for death from overdose by the patient or a family member? Over 300 Montanans die from prescription drug overdose each year. None die from marijuana overdose. If you or someone you love is benefiting from medical marijuana, or if you don't want to see 29,000 Montana medical marijuana cardholders reclassified as criminals, you need to let your legislator know now.
