SMOKING MARIJUANA DOES NOT LEAD TO LUNG CANCER The article "Forget facts, common sense or decency," Nov. 18, states "...marijuana is exceedingly bad for your lungs." The fact is studies done by UCLA, Harvard and Johns Hopkins have unexpectedly concluded that smoking marijuana, even regularly and heavily, does not lead to lung cancer. Compounds in marijuana may, in fact, protect against certain cancers. Research has shown THC cuts tumour growth in half in common lung cancer while impeding its ability to spread. THC may also kill aging cells and keep them from becoming cancerous. Jane Film (Numerous older studies on smoking suggest otherwise.) - --- MAP posted-by: Jay Bergstrom
