GOOD SAMARITAN LAW

In an attempt to prevent tragic deaths, such as those of young
"cheese" users, the state of New Mexico has enacted a "911 Good
Samaritan" law, the first of its kind in the nation. The law will
prevent authorities from prosecuting overdose victims, friends and
family members on drug possession charges on the basis of evidence
"gained as a result of the seeking of medical assistance."

Gov. Bill Richardson said, "This bill will encourage families and
friends of addicts to seek medical care and prevent their loved one
from dying."

It is a testament to the failure of drug prohibition that such laws
are needed.
