I am troubled because Canadian officials have brushed aside the medical evidence that Kubby faces a likely death in custody without access to medical cannabis. His malignant adrenal cancer kills by producing high blood-pressure spikes that produce heart attacks, strokes and aneurisms, something that marijuana has prevented. It's not surprising that Placer authorities refuse to believe that Kubby has a fatal medical condition. They have consistently denied the medical record, partly, one assumes, because they cannot believe that jailing Kubby would result in his death. More disappointing, however, is the Journal's failure to mention the fact that Kubby's fugitive status is the direct result of three Placer County judges who were recused from his case because of bias, acting to reinstate the felony charges that trial Judge John Cosgrove reduced to misdemeanors. Their intervention denied Kubby's right to appeal his conviction, since felony defendants must appear in person for their case to be considered. The discovery of those questionable acts prompted Kubby's attorneys to file an appeal with the California Supreme Court, and the California Commission on Judicial Performance. The possibility exists that Kubby will die in custody before Placer County's questionable conduct can be evaluated in the appropriate arena. I invite readers to examine the evidence at www.kubby.com. Apparently, doctors aren't the only professionals who can bury their mistakes. Patrick "Pat" McCartney Auburn
