Instead of discouraging tobacco smoking, a ban will do the opposite by introducing children to the habit. How many mothers smoke at the school gates? Surely tobacco smokers should have places such as Amsterdam-style coffee shops where they can get their fix of nicotine in private? They are, after all, drug addicts of a sort. As a non-tobacco smoker, I object in the strongest terms to sharing someone's stale exhaled tobacco smoke. It is a basic human right to breathe fresh air. If I choose to smoke cannabis (unlike tobacco, cannabis is not addictive), I do so in private, not on the street or at school gates, where children are present.
