BUT WHERE? Although I am encouraged by the letters of support regarding the detox and its Scott Block location, I am truly disappointed at the number of individuals opposed to this desperately needed facility, or rather, its proposed location. I am also confused as to where those opposed to the location would prefer it to be. If they don't want it where they work, I am sure they don't want it where they live either, so that leaves . . . where? I am saddened and unable to understand how, as an individual, you can decide that your needs are more important than those of another. It is important to recognize that although the Downtown Business Association has fears of their businesses being put at financial risk, the lives of the individuals in our community that require the assistance of a detox centre are also at risk. If you question the value of a detox centre or the lives it can change, ask around. I guarantee you somebody you know has loved a person with a drug or alcohol problem that can tell you that they are worth it. Many people struggle with the binds of an addiction; a detox centre can be the first step in changing the path of an individual's life. If we truly want to diminish the negative effects of drugs on the individual and our community, we need to provide the afflicted an opportunity to change. If you don't care enough to support the detox, that's OK, but please don't oppose it. Serena Campbell Red Deer - --- MAP posted-by: Larry Seguin
