DRUG WAR'S INHERENT FAILURE

RE "NEEDLE nonsense" (editorial, Oct. 28): The fact that the drug war
cannot keep drugs out of prisons, much less schools, is indicative of its
inherent failure. Drug warriors would have us believe the drug war's
collateral damage is good reason to maintain the status quo. Drug
prohibition finances organized crime at home and terrorism abroad, which is
then used to justify increased drug war spending.

Drug policy should focus not on reducing the total number of people who use
drugs, but rather on reducing the death, disease, crime and suffering
associated with both drug abuse and prohibition.

Common Sense for Drug Policy

(Right now we aren't sure we have a policy that does either)
