Talk about pussy-footing around the inevitable result -- legal marijuana. Parents are in an uproar because it sends a bad message to the kids. So do music, video games, movies, media, school, Uncle Bob, Larry from down the street, and probably everything else a kid lives for. By simply allowing pot use to operate, it may also force it to govern itself. Most people choose not to smoke weed in this country, not because it is illegal, but because it isn't part of who they are or what they do. Some people enjoy it every once in a while because it makes for a nice treat when done moderately. Others can't get enough of it. However, alcohol and cigarettes, which are legal, kill people in a variety of ways. Among other things, marijuana has contributed to some of the world's greatest music. Marijuana is already a seriously lucrative enterprise, and the government knows it. Decriminalization is a mere step on the staircase to total acceptability.
