CANADA SHOULD DO AS IT PLEASES

No matter how much U.S. drug warriors growl about "consequences," nothing
will be done if Canada reforms its marijuana laws. Meddling with our best
trade partner during this economic downturn will cause regime change in
Washington and everyone knows it. Neither John Ashcroft nor any other drug
crusader will be allowed to obstruct the $62 billion U.S.-Canada trade
relationship, no matter what Canada does with its marijuana laws. Slowing
trade across the border will never be allowed to happen because doing so
would get this administration voted out of office. Canada should do as it
pleases about revising marijuana laws.

(Obviously, Ashcroft convinced Canada's Justice Minister Martin Cauchon
otherwise, for now.)
