REAL ECSTASY WOULD BE HALTING THE DRUG WAR

In regard to your Oct. 15 editorial "The Agony of Ecstasy": I don't see the
logic in your anti-legalization argument. Ecstasy is illegal now, yet it is
widely available to those who want it. If it were legal tomorrow, those of
us who are not interested in mind-altering drugs would not rush out and buy
it. Right now there are plenty of legal drugs neither I nor my family consume.

As a result of the idea that stopping illegal drugs is worth any price, we
now have asset forfeiture laws in many states that punish law-abiding and
non-drug-consuming people. The war on drugs has taken a horrible toll all
through Latin America.

Your editorial begins, "We've never subscribed to the libertarian view that
drugs should be legalized. . . ." Well, the Libertarian Party is the only
one that reflects my views on this and other issues, and it will continue
to get my vote.
