A SOUND DECISION

I disagree with Officer David Duncan who claims in his letter to the 
NewsPress (Oct. 14) that Rob Hudson's refusal to speak to the Drug Policy 
Forum was a "sound decision."

Duncan states that Hudson sent a letter declining the letter of invitation 
to speak. That is not the case. I called the DA's office several times to 
finally receive an oral declination from a secretary. I never received a 
letter from Hudson.

For me, the clear difference is that Holcombe is willing to communicate, 
Hudson is not. Holcombe is open-minded, Hudson is not.

Any D.A. is not just a law enforcer, but ideally is a thinker as well. As 
far as prohibition issues are concerned, Hudson is clearly is not a thinker 
nor will he discuss the issues.

As a choice for D.A., my vote is for a thinker, not just an enforcer. 
Hudson will do what it takes to appear tough on drugs, to hurt people and 
their families who are already hurting. Drug users are no more criminals 
than those who use the most dangerous of all drugs, namely alcohol and 
nicotine.

Drug abusers of all drugs legal and illegal need treatment, not punishment. 
That's what this election is all about.
