MARTIN LUTHER KING WOULD HAVE BEEN DISAPPOINTED

I was pleased to see letters from readers criticizing the Lockney school
district policy of drug testing all students (Letters, April 9). Martin
Luther King Jr. dreamed of a time when young people would be judged by the
content of their character. Today, institutions like the Lockney school
district settle for judging young people by the content of their urine.
Adults are telling youth that negative test results are much more important
than positive actions.

If Dr. King could see how our society equates chemical integrity with moral
integrity I think he would be very disappointed.
