THE INTRICACIES OF DRUG TESTING

Re: "Babies and drugs" (Editorial, Oct. 9):

I'm a little confused. It is perfectly legal for a woman to take a drug
that will kill her unborn child (RU-486), but you argue that she should be
turned in to police if she is taking a street drug that could potentially
harm her baby. Since when is child abuse more illegal than murder?

In order for the Supreme Court to find drug testing of pregnant women
constitutional, it also must find testing of any patient, whether man or
woman, pregnant or not, for drug abuse constitutional. If this comes to
pass, how many patients do you think will be visiting their doctor's office
on a regular basis?
