To the Editor of The Independent:
Sirs, I'm writing about: "WE MUST PROTECT OUR TEENS FROM DANGERS OF
CANNABIS" (14-Sep 14).
The cannabis legalization issue is not whether cannabis is completely
safe for everybody, including children and adolescents , it is not.
The issue is freedom of choice for adults. Children have died from
eating peanuts and peanut butter but we don't cage peanut growers,
sellers or consumers.
And the voters of the U. S. states of Colorado and Washington state have
decided that we should not cage cannabis growers, sellers or consumers.
I submit that all adults should have the same freedom of choice that
they have in Colorado and Washington.

Letter *
Kevin Sabet is a professional drug war cheerleader. That's his job. His
only job. The re-legalization of cannabis will lead to the unemployment
of Kevin Sabet. And he knows it.
Cannabis prohibition of the linchpin of our so-called war on drugs. When
cannabis prohibition is ended the entire drug war will collapse.

Re: Legal Challenges Put 'Charlotte's Web' on Hold. 20 September
Yet again, Floridians who could benefit from legal medical marijuana are
being held hostage. This time it's by competing business interests in
Florida and by arm-waving reports from California, whose laws are far
looser than Amendment2.
But this time we're more aware of the medical benefits because more
patients are going public with their stories. We also have peer-reviewed
research that finds unexpected benefits in the first dozen states to
have medical marijuana laws. Compared to the other 38 states, traffic
fatalities are down, violent crime is down, property crime is down,
overdose deaths(whether intentional or not) are down. All of these
benefits, and no increase in adolescent pot smoking.
Almost overlooked, those first dozen states allow home growing of the
whole plant for medicine, a freedom not allowed by Amendment2. But
home-growing could be added by the legislature. The struggle for
accessible, affordable medicine will not end on Election Day.
