To the Editor of The Arizona Republic: Major kudos to Dr. Gina Mecagni
for her on-target oped: "Republic's readers deserve truth about
medical-pot program" (11-23-13). I'd like to add that the only sham
about the medical marijuana program is the beyond ridiculous prices
charged at the dispensaries. I can afford my $4 co-pay for my dose of 50
Vicodin tablets. I cannot afford to pay at least $350 for an ounce of
medical marijuana. And neither can a lot of other people.

Re: letter 26 November; A Shift in Attitudes on Marijuana
The letter "A Shift in Attitudes On Marijuana" invites the question,
what will it take to formalize the shift? Justice Louis Brandeis spoke
approvingly of the "laboratory of the states" as the test bed for
proposed changes in social policy. Florida has a chance to become one of
those states, and Florida voters need not wait for their Legislature to
wake up. Florida's Constitution provides that Florida voters can make
law themselves by citizens' initiative. The first step to do that is the
petition, now on the street, to put the question of medical marijuana on
the November ballot. The petition needs over 300,000 MORE Florida voters
to sign it in the next few weeks, just to put the question on the
ballot. If it reaches the ballot, it likely will pass, given the recent
shift in attitudes. For more information go to www.unitedforcare.org

Subject: "Let's not make pot legal"
So Kendra Salito writes: "Let's not make pot legal"
(11-24-13). Since people have died from consuming peanuts we should
criminalize peanuts. And since people have died as a result of consuming
too much water, perhaps we should criminalize water.

To the Editor of The Times-Dispatch:
I'm writing about John Fuller's thoughtful letter: "Hold politicians to
same standard"
(11-29-13).
If Florida Congressman Henry "Trey" Radel was not a Congressman but just
an ordinary
citizen and especially if he were Black or Hispanic he would not have
been sentenced to
probation. Instead he would now be wearing an orange jump suit and
facing several
months or years in jail or prison.
Do I think Radel should be in jail or prison? No. Our jails and prison
should be reserved
for those who intentionally harm others against their will.
