I'm writing about: "LET'S HAVE A RATIONAL DEBATE ON DRUG POLICY, SEN.
GRASSLEY" (11-14-09).
Why does Iowa Senator Chuck
Grassley want to stifle
debate on our nation's drug
policies? Is he on the payroll of the Mexican drug
cartels? Probably.
The notorious gangster Al Capone made most of his
illegal money from alcohol prohibition. Capone had hundreds of
politicians on his payroll. Is it unreasonable to suspect that the drug
lords are following Capone's business model?
What type of politicians would the drug lords have on their payroll?
Politicians who urge the status quo of drug prohibition, or politicians
who suggest that we re-legalize drugs to put the drug lords out of
business?

I'm sure the Mexican drug cartels are thankful to the
Mountlake Terrace city officials who rejected the application
for the storefront marijuana dispensary.
Perhaps some of the city officials are on the payroll
of the cartels. Al Capone had hundreds of politicians
and law enforcement officials on his payroll.

Please consider the following for publication:
Current policy attracts those interested in working in a corrupt system and
milking it, thereby creating a pervasive disrespect for the law. Better
policy would attract more of those interested in making things run with the
milk of human kindness. Support for the federal war on drugs is inconsistent
with support for individual freedom, constitutional government and the
teachings of Jesus.
The outrageous violence and official lawlessness triggered by the
drug war will end with repeal just as these policy created problems
disappeared with repeal of alcohol prohibition.
Many supporters of a change to science-based policy do not use so-called
illicit drugs or plan to but are just compassionate liberty lovers! We
believe less people will be lost to suicide, overdose and skid row or will
stoop to prostitution with policy that offers help and treatment to addicts
in place of incarceration.
Restore Justice! Focus on Violent Crime! More time could be spent on DUI and
keeping drugs from minors. Drug warriors can get their adrenaline rush
catching rapist, murderers and other perpetrators of violence. These
horrible crimes continue to pile up, unsolved and await all the truly brave
officers who transfer out of drug enforcement to expanded violent crime
units.

Loosening anti-drug law is not a bad thing. In 1996, it was feared that
California kids would get the wrong message when Californians voted
their Prop 215 for medical marijuana, but the fear was misplaced.
Perhaps it was the 'forbidden fruit' effect, or maybe it was the
refreshing candor. Either way, kids' pot smoking actually declined in
the years after 1996. The same effect has been quietly at work,
nationally, among kids' cigarette smoking. For 13 years, cigarette
smoking among kids has declined every year, far more than pot smoking,
and all without the threat of arrest. The message for our legislators is
that candor and rational policy are more effective for kids than
"fighting drugs".

Please consider the following for publication:
Don't incarcerate nonviolent drug users at all. Stop forcing them into
prison; a breeding ground for sexual perversion and violence.
We need to fight drug abuse with compassion; treat nonviolent abusers as
patients not criminals. Fight use with factual evidence! Educate people and
they will make better choices for themselves. The tobacco, alcohol and
pharmaceuticals gangs deal drugs causing more death annually than all
illicit drugs. We tolerate their salesmen!
Most Americans and Texans believe health care is the responsibility of the
individual. The use of marijuana has been demonized
and made a crime, when in truth, it is a health care story about a safer
choice!
Stop incarcerating people for making a safer choice.

the U. S. has much drug-related violence. What both countries have is
lots of drug prohibition created violence.

To the Editor of Savannah Morning News:
I'm responding the the outstanding letter from Chris Deak: "S. C.
should approve medical marijuana" (11-17-09).
I'd like to add that one of the medications prescribed by my personal
physician for my arthritis pain and inflammation, has the rare potential
side effect of death. In other words, if I take this medication as
prescribed, I can die as a result.
On the other hand, marijuana has never been documented to kill a single
person in the 5,000 year history of its use.
For me, marijuana is the more effective medication. Right now, if
adult citizens opt for the safer and more effective medication,
they are subject to arrest and being sent to jail with violent criminals.
Is something wrong with this situation? I think so.
Shouldn't adult citizens have the freedom to choose what goes into their
own bodies in the privacy of their own homes?

To the Editor of The Phoenix:
I'm writing about your thoughtful editorial: "Legalize medical
marijuana" (11-19-09).
Beyond just the use of marijuana as medicine, why do so many of our
politicians want to keep a natural herb that has never been documented
to kill a single person, a criminalized substance? Why do apparently
intelligent people want to arrest and jail other people who use or sell
an easy-to-grow weed?
Perhaps to understand their position we should study the history of U.S.
alcohol prohibition. The notorious gangster Al Capone made most of his
illegal money from alcohol prohibition. Capone often bragged that he
“owned” the city of Chicago. Obviously, he didn't own all of the city of
Chicago; however, he had most or all of the politicians and police who
ran the city on his payroll. Al Capone was a successful businessman and
its not unreasonable to suspect that the drug cartels of today are
following his business model.
Its also not unreasonable to suspect that the drug cartels may have
many high-level politicians and police officials on their payroll.
Obviously, the type of politicians the drug cartels would have on their
payroll are those who advocate the continuation of the status quo of
marijuana prohibition, which is making the drug cartels so fabulously
wealthy.
I'm not saying that any specific so-called “drug warrior” is on the
payroll of the drug cartels—just a little suspicious. I'm just a little
suspicious of the motives of all of the drug-war cheerleaders.
