I clicked on the NY Times Forum Page link [below] and was soon
directed to this little gem. -Bob R

STAY AWAY FROM DRUGS, kids. They'll suck every filament of moral
fiber from your soul and set your brain afire with insane delusions.
In the end you'll be murdering, kidnapping, and torturing, and you'll
be rationalizing it all for the sake of the drugs. Don't believe me?
Just look at what drugs have done to the U.S. government.

Dear Talkers,

Just thought you all would be interested in the LTE I sent today:

>Dear Ms. Saunders,
>
>You remain this liberal's favorite conservative columnist. Kudo's for
>today column.
> IMHO Dubya would not only "outclass" Clinton by, as you suggested, by
> setting up the review panel looking toward freeing thousands of victims
> of excessive sentencing, but he would reap an enormous political
> benefit. As you noted the African-American's (and to some extent
> Latinos) are the primary victims and they would, IMHO, reciprocate with
> political support.
>
>Starting the panel at the federal level would open the flood gates at the
>state level, benefiting hundreds of thousands more and adding votes to the
>"R"s column. Of course, this would signal the eventual end to the Drug
>War, sort of like Nixon did by turning the War in Vietnam over to the
>Republic of South Vietnam. Do we have enough jobs for down-sizing former
>drug warriors?
>
>Keep up the good work.

Dear Talkers,

I may have stated that the column was in the San Francisco Examiner, 30
Dec. 2001. That is a grave disservice to her, the SF Chronicle and all of
you. Ms. Saunders is a regular column writer for the SF Chronicle and her
column appeared on the 30th in that paper.

Also, I "newshawked" the column to MAP this a.m.

PS. Ms. Saunders ALWAYS responds to email. This morning she emailed me that
she was not humble and that she agreed with me (mostly she doesn't.)
