ABC, CBS, FOX IN NEWS VIDEO CO-OP
Network News Service Created
(Hollywood Reporter)In another sign of network news
divisions trying to control costs, ABC, CBS and Fox have
formed a cooperative venture that will share video among
their respective affiliate news services.
The cooperative, called Network News Service, will collect
video from the three network newsgathering units and their
affiliates and provide it to ABC NewsOne, CBS Newspath and
Fox News Edge, which feed national news packages and
footage to stations for use in their local newscasts.
‘Our news cooperative will ensure that we always have the
best possible video of the widest range of stories,’ ABC
News president David Westin said.
Each network's news service will be able to select from all
of that day's NNS material for inclusion in its regular
feeds to affiliates. However, ABC NewsOne, CBS Newspath and
Fox News Edge will continue to operate independently as
each network's own affiliate news servi

Stop The Presses!

A Better Letters to the Editor Section
‘Letters to the Editor’ are a staple of dead-tree journalism, and in
most newspapers and magazines remain treated much as they have been for
decades. A few letter writers out of many get their words published, and
those that do get published often are edited for length, spelling,
grammar - and sometimes the message itself.
The process at many publications (especially large ones)
leaves the majority of people unhappy - for not having
their letter chosen, or for having it edited to a form that
the letter writer does not approve.
Is there a better way? Sure, do a better job of integrating the Internet
with your publication’s letters to the editor section in print. It will
make your readers happier, and demonstrate to your community that you
support the free exchange of ideas.
Problem No. 1: No more room
The basic problem with most letters to the editor operations is, of
course, lack of physical space.

Tonight A&E's "Investigative Reports" was on Asset Forfeiture. Bill Kurtis
did a wonderful job of presenting this issue in a straight forward fashion,
pointing out the unconstitutionality of such laws. A&E should be commended
for this show and encouraged to go deeper into the drug war.

Saw your post at http://data.detnews.com:8081/feedback/surveyletters.hbs. "I
am aginst legalization of drugs - oki?"
In our country we have a term for those who favor jailing other citizens for
nonviolent behavior that harms no one else. It comes from the concept of
liberty, which Americans have done much to advance around the world since
our original Constitution was ratified in 1789. Unfortunately, liberty has
been abandoned in our War on Drugs. We have arrested and imprisoned over 10
million Americans for marijuana possession alone, ruining countless lives
and wasting billions of dollars for no visible benefit to anyone except the
jailers.
Oh, what is our term for people like yourself? We call them QUISLINGS.

As of 4:00pm CST on Tuesday, Dec. 28, it's 45% Yes, 55% No. Methinks
that perhaps word has gotten out to prohibitionists?

Is it 110 billion? I've been telling people it was 30 billion until I
heard 50 billion.... but 110 billion is the highest yet. Is it that
high now?

I agree with your Zero on marijuana deaths, however there are always
those that come back and call the statistic irresponsible because of car
wrecks in which a driver was high, or fork lift accidents in which the
fork lift operator was high.
I have driven stoned and I found myself to be more cautious and more
courteous when I'm high, like using my blinkers properly... allowing it
to flash three or four times before changing lanes, etc... But when I
wasn't high, I was usually in a furious rush, breaking the speed limit,
swerving in and out of traffic, etc...
So people like to use marijuana as a scapegoat. If there's a car wreck,
and one of the drivers is high, it's the marijuana that caused the
accident, so the perception goes. Even when I point out that people
eating Big Macs have wrecks, people using cell phones have wrecks,
people who are sober have wrecks, and people who are admiring themselves
in the mirror have wrecks, they still insist that marijuana causes car
wrecks. With alcohol it's been proven. With marijuana, it hasn't, to
my knowledge. This is not to say that I think that all people should
smoke a joint before driving, but I am saying that I don't believe that
driving under the influence is a valid argument against legalization
when you consider that it's just as easy to have a wreck while trying to
keep a hamburger together or while dialing a number on your car phone.
They're making it illegal in some areas to talk on car phones while
driving. Next might be eating while driving. If nothing else,
legalizing marijuana might reduce air pollution and conserve fuel if
people know they have to stay home to get high. I would.

According to a study I just read, we might all be better of if
everyone smoked a joint before driving. If I have interpreted the
information correctly, the study shows that you are 40% *less*
likely to be involved in a fatal accident after smoking marijuana.
Check it out at: www.ukcia.org/lib/research/driving3.htm
