This link was sent to me because of the heroin issue contained herein. I
see they have a legalization debate beginning. I looked around on the site,
which is maintained by Time, and these could be people we want to reach. You

advocates that people with serious health problems should be given tainted

Dear Editors:
re: "Can't Build Enough Jails, So Give Drug Treatment A Chance," your
proposals are thoughtful and humane, but what about addicts who only
crime is possession? Certainly, we ought to offer treatment to any addicts
who want it. But do they need punishment at all?
And what about drug users who are not addicts? Last year, there were
almost 700,000 arrests for marijuana in the U.S. According to the
Institute of Medicine, along with most other reputable science, marijuana
is not addictive. Those busted for marijuana are not addicts. Do they
also need "treatment", or do they merely need long, harsh punishments so
they stop "dissing" the Czar and setting a "bad example" for some parents'
kids?
From the taxpayers perspective, we could certainly find a better use
for the money we spend busting all those potheads and putting them in jail.

Anyone get this article? Got an Email address? NY Magazine is not in our
media contact list (but I think it is a NY Times insert isn't it? This
could easily slip under our radar as it probably doesn't mention drugs but
it is definitely worth and Focus Alert if we can get it hawked.
